Awards History

Historically, the National Association of Diversity Officers in Higher Education has recognized individuals who are committed to inclusive excellence through our Inclusive Excellence Awards and our Global Engagement Awards.

Inclusive Excellence Awards

NADOHE celebrates individuals and institutions for their exemplary achievements and contributions to lead higher education toward inclusive excellence. Each year nominations for the Inclusive Excellence Awards are submitted on behalf of higher education administrators and institutions who are leaders in the study of diversity by means of research, leadership and service. The goal of the awards are to recognize innovative inclusive excellence and to encourage diversity professionals to implement comprehensive policies, practices, and initiatives designed to achieve inclusive excellence on their campuses.

Award categories include the Dr. Frank W. Hale, Jr. Distinguished Service Award, Institutional Excellence Award, Individual Leadership Award, Rising Star Award, and Outstanding Dissertation Award.

Global Engagement Awards

The Global Engagement Award is designed to encourage global engagement among underrepresented students from diverse backgrounds (first-generation college students, students from rural or isolated areas, and students from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds). The students recognized represent a broad cross-section of our society, including students with disabilities, different race/ethnicity populations, religious backgrounds, LGBTQIA, and other identities.

The award is given to U.S. citizens and preference is given to students who have not traveled or studied abroad previously. The award may be used to support faculty-led programs and/or for semester/study abroad options. Five monetary awards, of $2,000 each, are granted annually. For consideration, students must be nominated by a NADOHE member. The next nomination period opens in October 2022.
