The Next Generation: Building Influence, Leading Change, Shaping the Future
Tuesday, March 9, 2027
8:00 AM - 12:00 PM
Whether you are new to the profession or preparing for your next leadership opportunity, the future of inclusive excellence depends on leaders who can influence change, build strategic partnerships, and lead with confidence.
Designed for entry-level through director-level professionals, this interactive leadership accelerator equips participants with essential competencies needed to thrive in today’s evolving landscape. Through practical strategies, real-world scenarios, conversations with experienced leaders, and opportunities for reflection, participants will strengthen their leadership presence, expand their organizational influence, and develop a personalized roadmap for career growth.
As part of the experience, participants will engage in a focused CQ® Pro Assessment experience that provides a practical framework for understanding how they lead across differences and identifying ways to strengthen their influence, relationships, and effectiveness during change. The CQ® experience will complement broader exploration of leadership presence, organizational navigation, strategic partnerships, change leadership, and career advancement.
Participants will leave with practical tools to navigate institutional complexity, lead through change, cultivate executive relationships, build strategic partnerships, and position themselves for advancement- along with greater self-awareness and a powerful network of colleagues committed to shaping the future of the profession.
Audience: This pre-conference workshop is designed for all conference attendees and is open to professionals across roles, disciplines, and levels of experience.
Expansive Authenticity: Reimagining Leadership Presence for Senior Diversity Leaders in Higher Education
Tuesday, March 9, 2027
1:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Traditional definitions of “executive presence” often rely on narrow, Eurocentric, and heteronormative standards that can feel restrictive or misaligned for senior diversity, equity, and inclusion leaders whose identities and leadership approaches may sit outside those dominant norms. At the executive level, diversity officers are expected to lead with authenticity while simultaneously navigating institutional politics, competing expectations, heightened visibility, and complex relationships with presidents, cabinets, boards, faculty, staff, students, and external stakeholders. Too often, leaders are presented with a false choice: conform to traditional models of executive presence or show up with “unfiltered” authenticity. Neither approach fully accounts for the complexity of executive leadership or the impact of our choices on those we lead.
This workshop introduces a new paradigm, Expansive Authenticity, that moves beyond the idea that “there is only one way to be me” and instead asks: What are the many ways I can authentically lead, and which approach best aligns with my leadership goals, context, and impact? For senior diversity officers navigating heightened scrutiny, politically charged environments, identity-based expectations, and the demands of executive leadership, this framework offers a practical alternative to burnout-inducing perfectionism on one hand and professionally risky reactivity on the other.
In this highly interactive four-hour session, participants will deconstruct traditional notions of executive presence; examine how Cultural Intelligence and Impression Management can strengthen leadership effectiveness; explore how identity and lived experience can function as executive leadership assets rather than liabilities; and engage in professional group coaching to address real-world leadership challenges. Participants will leave with practical strategies for expanding their leadership range while remaining grounded in who they are and intentional about the impact they want to have.
Audience: This session is designed specifically for senior- and executive-level diversity officers in higher education who are navigating the complexities of institutional leadership, influence, visibility, and sustained impact.
