Lorraine Lopez-Janove
Chief Diversity Officer
SUNY Orange, Sullivan, and Ulster Community Colleges

1. What is your title and role within your institution?

I am the Chief Diversity Officer, a shared leadership position between three community colleges – SUNY Orange, SUNY Sullivan & SUNY Ulster. In my role as CDO, I serve as an institutional change agent providing leadership and vision to the College Presidents in the delivery of a comprehensive range of services, policies, and procedures related to equity in diversity and inclusive excellence. I participate in all aspects of institutional planning at each campus, in support of their respective missions and goals, to assist the colleges in meeting the needs of the diverse student, faculty and staff populations and creating a learning and working environment where all have the opportunity to succeed.

2. What would you want the world to know about your institution’s commitment to diversity?

Each of the three community colleges has a commitment to its goals and objectives of providing quality programs and services for culturally, socio-economically, ethnically, and academically diverse students and student with disabilities.

3. Why did you join NADOHE?

As with any reputable profession, it is vital to be associated with an organization that is committed to provide resources and strong support to its members as we lead the institutions we work in toward inclusive excellence.

4. What do you hope to gain from your NADOHE membership?

I look forward to being a part of a network of experienced CDO’s; to build relationships with others that are engaged in this equity work; and, to learn from their challenges and successes.
