Dr. Raji Rhys has been promoting excellence thru diversity and inclusion in higher education for more than 15 years. Dr. Rhys received her Ph.D. in Counseling Psychology from the University of Maryland, College Park where her research and practice focused on multicultural populations. She has held numerous diversity related positions within higher education including serving as the founding director of San José State University's first multicultural center and most recently as the Special Advisor to the President for Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Arizona. In this current role, she provides leadership and guidance on strengthening the University’s ongoing efforts to build institutional capacity for inclusion.
Dr. Rhys has taught courses in her discipline and has contributed scholarly works to edited volumes including the Handbook of Multicultural Psychology and published research in refereed journals. She also serves as an occasional reviewer for Journal of Diversity in Higher Education. Her current research interests include diversity and inclusion within the context of organizational development. She serves on Boards such as the Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation Board and the Asian Pacific American Faculty, Staff, and Alumni Association Board.
Dr. Rhys has been the recipient of a number of awards. While at the University of Arizona she has received the Asian Pacific American Outstanding Staff Award and the Commission on the Status of Women’s Vision Award for Exemplary Leadership.
